Different muscle groups can be targeted with a drug called Botulinum Toxin Type A more commonly known as one of its sub brand names 'Botox®', a neurotoxin produced by bacteria Clostridium botulinum and processed into powder form.
The neurotoxin blocks nerve signals to underlying muscles, paralyzing the muscles and preventing repetitive facial expressions that form wrinkles.

What areas can be treated?
The most common targeted areas are the dynamic wrinkles, which form over time due to repetitive facial movements and mainly appear in the upper facial area.
These muscles are the Glabellar (frown lines), Frontalis (horizontal forehead lines) and lateral canthal lines (crows feet) which are divided into treatment areas for example x1 area, x2 areas or x3 areas depending on how many muscle groups you wish to be treated.

There are only three different brands of Botulinum Toxin licensed to legally be used in the UK. These are Botox®, Azzulure and Bocoture.
Here at SPA we use the brand Botox®.
These drugs are prescription only medications and require a consultation with Sophie our independent nursed prescriber before the treatment can be carried out, even if you have had the treatment elsewhere prior. This is a legal requirement and to make sure you are medically suitable for the treatment and so a prescription can be written for you and sent off to the pharmacy in order to receive your medication.

For at least FOUR hours after treatment:

Keep upright

Do not bend excessively For TWELVE hours post treatment:

Avoid extreme facial expressions

Avoid alcohol
Avoid wearing make up For TWO days post treatment:

Do not rub or massage the area

After washing pat the skin dry.
For TWO weeks post treatment:

Avoid exposure to sunlight & extreme temperatures, e.g sauna, sunbeds & steam rooms.

Do not have beauty treatments such as facials & facial massages.
